Business without Borders: The Perfect Networking and Business Opportunity

Posted on Share on:

I traveled to San Diego on October 11, 2017, where I had the pleasure of meeting up with our international guests who were joining us for Business without Borders, a very special event where industrial brokers can expand their inventory to Baja’s real estate market. We hopped on an executive-grade bus and headed down to Tijuana, home of Atisa Industrial, the city’s leading industrial developer and host of this event.

My quick trip to San Diego that morning meant that I wasn’t at the event until the bus arrived at Mirabella III’s main entrance. I was glad to see that, even before activities were scheduled to begin, there was already a guest turnout of over 70 people. This gave everyone a chance to chat and network with our guest speakers, industrial real estate brokers, and commercial partners.

As soon as everyone had a glass of wine on their table and had taken their seats, the lights were dimmed, and a countdown appeared on the stage’s screen. Upon reaching zero, all guests had a chance to get the first glimpse of Atisa’s official corporate video followed by a warm welcome and inauguration speech given by our CEO, Christian Carrillo.

Carrillo gave a comprehensive overview of the industrial sector’s presence in Tijuana, with 84% of it being international companies with 92% of them being focused on manufacturing. Rafael Martinez, Atisa Industrial’s Vice President introduced its 2018-2019 development plan, which includes two million square feet of new industrial buildings mostly located in Parque Industrial Pacífico. This presentation was wrapped up by our guest speakers, Rob Hixon (CBRE), Miguel Velasco (NAI Mexico), Jorge Galván (Pentel), and Jean-Paul de Kervor (Maquila Properties), who joined us for the “Why is Tijuana the go-to place for the industrial sector?” panel and gave the crowd a few insights about the perks and advantages of working in Tijuana. Afterwards, it was time to move on to a more lighthearted activity: A sports competition.

We were excited to see every single person lining up to shoot hoops, kick soccer balls, or give the old pigskin a throw, overall having a good time competing for a chance to win one of the event’s raffle prizes. Two guests went home with a 55 inch TV while the lucky winner of our grand prize was eager to plan his all-expenses-paid trip to the beautiful Puerto Vallarta.

As the games came to a close and everyone had tried a bite of Casa Plascencia’s delicious canapés, it was time for Derrick Baldwin, TACNA’s vice-president of operations, to begin his presentation explaining all the ways that someone could bring their company to Tijuana and his own experience working in Mexico. This concluded the program for the evening and, after few words of acknowledgment and appreciation by Atisa’s CEO, we brought down the curtain for Business without Borders 2017.

A very special thank you to all our guests, local and international, who joined us for the first ever edition of Business without Borders. Its thanks to you that this event was a success. We hope to see you again in years to come!
