According to the statement by Luis Manuel Hernandez, president of Tijuana Index, the manufacturing export sector has had an increase in its operations, export activity has increased from 6 million USD per hour to 7.2 million. Such behavior has gone accordingly to the strengthening of the dollar and the euro as well as the economic strength in the sector

Due to two consecutive months of growth, he mentioned that the industry is currently getting stronger and is this increase that suggests that year closure will be stable. He said that comparing to number made in December 2015 these figures will be above 3%

Regarding employment the state of Baja California remains second place with a little more than 240 thousand jobs, this is possible because 920 companies reside in the state of Baja California of which 599 are native of Tijuana-Rosarito, 134 are in Mexicali, 102 in Tecate and 85 in Ensenada.

He detailed that although it appears that the number of companies has reduced, said reductions is because some of these businesses have been merged vertically.

He mentions that there are companies that have up to 6 social reasons, which were merged and are now one, these plants had around 200 workers and are now one of 1200 workers

Even though there are fewer companies now that in 2007, jobs in the last 10 years have increased, another factor that influenced the growth in competition is the decrease in costs. In Baja California, this sector generates approximately 4,550 jobs a year.

The president of Index recognized that between 3 and 5 companies have closed down operations in Baja California because their product went off the market and there were others who moved their operations into Asia but mentioned that one back its operations in 2017.

He said there was a global impact made by the vertical integration of enterprises, which means that suppliers will be a part of companies.
