Some Background About Parque Industrial Pacifico

Industrial Parks in Mexico began in 1965, with the creation of the Maquiladora Export Industry (IME) program. The north of Mexico was the first region in the developing of Industrial Parks, and among the ideal cities for this industry, Tijuana was a prominent one.

Parque Industrial Pacifico Tijuana began development around 1990 with 1,200 acres of land intended for the growth of the industrial and commerce sectors.

Back then, ATISA Group was already innovating with foreign construction techniques yet to be seen in the country, such as the Tilt-up method, which added to the rapid growth of the park. The technique allowed faster construction times and new advantages for clients altogether.

Today, Parque Industrial Pacifico is one of Mexico’s most prolific industrial parks in the city, home of over 90 established companies and considered the best labor submarket in Tijuana.

Electrical Infrastructure & Power Generation

Baja California’s power generation plays a pivotal role in driving the state’s industrial growth. With a capacity of 3000MW, the combination of both public and private power services provides reliable energy infrastructure, making the region highly attractive for industrial investment and development.

Tijuana Electrical Infrastructure & Power Generation

According to a study of the Planning Committee for the Development of the State (COPLADE). There are two major electricity production centers, out of which, the closest to Parque Industrial Pacifico is in Rosarito (Presidente Juárez Central Thermoelectric Plant).

There are also more options available, such as the recently built gerenation plant in González Ortaga and the newly constructed Sonora Solar Plant, which will increase and an additional 2000MW and interconnect with the Baja California Electrical System.

These power plants supply stable energy to the city of Tijuana and its multiple sectors. The combination of geothermal and thermoelectric sources ensures consistent energy availability, critical for uninterrupted industrial operations.

The electric system of Baja California has access to interconnections of the U.S electric system (Western Electricity Coordinating Council) through two 230kV transmission lines at:

  • La Rosita – Valle Imperial substation.
  • Tijuana – Otay Mesa connection.

These interconnections allow the state to balance supply and demand in cooperation with U.S. energy markets, providing industrial players with reliable alternatives during periods of peak demand or fluctuations in the grid.
