25 companies in the medical industrial sector invest in Tijuana

During the medical design & manufacturing West show which is focused on presenting new medical device designs as well as their manufacturing, in the event the most important companies in the US medical sector meet annually. Baja California participated with a module which achieved to attract at least 25 companies to have interest to invest in Tijuana.

The president of “Desarrollo Económico e Industrial de Tijuana A.C.” Cristina Hermosillo Ramos mentioned that they are focusing on three areas present on the event, which are manufacturing, electronics, and plastic. Prior to the show more than 200 prospects were filtered and contacted, out of which 25 appointments were managed to be made in the three areas, which could eventually mean an investment of about 75 million dollars.

Efforts made be the “Team Med” which is made up of members of DEITAC and secretaries of both state and municipal economic development, reported that the arrival of these 25 companies will generate about 5,000 jobs directly.

Xavier Peniche, Secretary of economic development of Tijuana, mentions that companies that will be prospected, are manufacturing companies, which are profiled to have 250 existing jobs and minimum sales of 10 million dollars.

Baja California ranks #1 in the industrial medical sector nationwide. Most of these industries are in the city of Tijuana, there is a total of 44 companies, which generate 41,500 jobs currently. 75% of these companies are of US origin and the other 25% of the rest comes from other countries such as the UK, Iceland, New Zealand, France, Sweden, and Germany some of which plan to expand their projects in the future.
