Baja California will grow above the national average

During the monthly meeting for INDEX Tijuana, Carlo Bonfante Olache, Secretary of Economic Development, said that Baja California will continue with better economic development than the national average, it was reiterated at that meeting that the next national convention of this organization, which will be he held the next November, will have the support of governor Francisco “Kiko” Vega de Lamadrid.

In the exhibition it was indicated that Baja California’s economy grew 3.5% in the first quarter of 2016, higher than the national average of 2.5% in the same period, the growth of this economic activity began to increase from the fourth quarter of 2014. With this, the state adds its sixth consecutive semester of growth above the national average.

According to the Instituto Nacional de Estadística y Geografía (INEGI), Monthly Indicator of Industrial Activity in which an increase of 5% is shown for the month of May, and within the industrial activity, mining growth is highlighted with 16.8% increase, manufacturing with 8% and electricity generation with 4.7%. Meanwhile, construction decreased 1.2% in the same period.

Bonfante Olache added that this growth is on par with the generation of formal employment in the various sub-sectors, as can be seen in the amount of jobs generated by the mining, construction, processing and electricity generation industries, whose figure 26 thousand 39 employees, which constitutes 65% of total employment, according to data from the Instituto Mexicano del Seguro Social (IMSS) in July 2016 cut.

In August, 7000 303 jobs were generated, which gave the state the third place of the northern border and fifth of the country. Participating with 6.2% of total employment generated this month. He also pointed out that growth has allowed the state unemployment rate to lower to 2.3% which is the lowest recorded since 2008

The IMMEX Tijuana industry contributes 65% to the increase of personnel required in the state and 7.6% of the national total, according to the state official, in the last year Tijuana has offset the decline of establishments in the other municipalities, he also mentions that there will be major changes in the labor market, since the market changed from being a demand market to one of bidders, the main challenge to achieve is to improve wages at a faster rate, which will assist in strengthening the internal market.

Finally, the export industry has seen an increase in wages over the past year, the industry sees a 5.9% growth while the national average was 2.6%.

The meeting was led by Luis Manuel Hernández González, President of INDEX, accompanied by the body’s director, Guillermo Jimenez; Angelica Figueroa Apango, leader of the Association of Human Resources Industry Tijuana (Arithac) and Gabriela Siller Pagaza, representative of Banco Base.
